Good song! Actually, In this video Mark kind of resembles another bassplayer called Nigel Clutterbuck. I played once with Nigel at London guitar show at wembley end of 90´s for Zootbass. They are very much alike. Visually that is. Love to all of you!

Mark always displays such talent on the bass and this is no exception.
It’s great to see all the old interviews and to look back to my favourite era for music.
Thanks so much Morgan for posting this super video

I remember watching this running to get a black tape and being amazed at Marks skill and virtuosity.I also remember this well as it was a month after i got married.

I just got impressed as hell with what I’ve just seeing. I first saw Mark King playing live in the Prince Trust, he was playing and singing Running The Family and I was impressed with all those strange, unusual slow-tempo thumb-and-chords moves. It seemed like hard soul, with some rhythm and blues on. The chord changes also are superb, very to-the-point, in-your-face situation.

I play bass myself and play melodic (I don’t slap), but I guess Mark’s command of this technique put the bass into a more raw, down-heart style which can ‘invitate’ one to plug in the bass and try to play-along his lines, not to be a Mark King clone but only to just discover new ways of playing scales in the bass, as happens with blues guitar players when listening to their favorite players, without teachers, you know…

    Great stuff!
