Oh wow! The dates for next year’s tour! Thanks Mark…made my day for sure. :)
No Newcastle City Hall this time? Oh well, the Sage is just across the Tyne if I can remember rightly.
And a few new places too this year – Aberdeen? Get your thermals on for that one.
So sorry to hear Gary won’t be there this time. :( He will be very much missed.
As for drummers, *ahem*…isn’t Phil Gould available? *hides*…gets my coat! Hehehe! ;)

Yeah there’s a guy down in dorset thats not bad.. bit rusty. He might be up for it…

  4. Posted 13 November 2009 at 11:24 |

Ask Phil, if he doesn’t want, ask Gavin Harrison.

And you should really check out Mark Simpson!

Manu Katche or Miles Bould would do fine too.

Anything about a Dutch tour, or will that be February 2011?

    Me, I play! :)

Or you could just get one of the Jedward guys…

Phil would be a good Xmas present but I won’t push my luck.

Another guy who I think could fit is Bruce Smith (played in late 80’s Public Image Ltd. for one) http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:3jfixqldldte~T4, although his CV doesn’t make him a very typical candidate.

You could always just create a cut out of Gary to put behind the kit and all mime…

    Yesssssss.

Great news roll on October 2010!! It will be Manchester Apollo for us, it’s a pity Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury is’nt bigger(only seats around 900 I think) that would have been a great second show for us and only about 12 miles to get there!!!

The last show at Symphony Hall Birmingham was excellent, Mark. Full of energy and best set list for a while.
I have never seen Phil play (hint).
Saw Fleetwood Mac recently -didn’t realise what a great drummer Mick F was. 10 min drum solo!
I wonder who would be the easier to get!

Just thinking about a drummer and apart from me, Phil G would fantastic. I know it may be a long shot but the suggestion is there!!! Or what about Simon Phillips??? He’s just popped into my head. I’ve seen him a few times and he can rattle those pots and pans like nobody’s business!!!

But like I say, I would be free as a first sorry last resort!!!

MARK & PHIL – please take this as respectful as possible as I love you both and as a proud L42 fan as you guys now, it has to be Phil Gould. 30th Anniversary Tour in essence in 2010, abit of new L42 tracks, mixed in with the latest solo stuff from each member, and some the classic gems (43, TPOA, True Believers, Freedom Someday) LIVE. I guess my point of view is that of one who has suffered many losses of friends and relatives in the past 10 years. The minutes/hours/sometimes days when I felt totally down and out the music of L42 got me to that happy place again where I could get my mind and body up and be productive again. I guess (like most who have gone through this) realize that life is such a short gift we have been given and I realized that the things that were important to me once were so petty now and that I do not want to look back if I make it to 90 and say, “DAMN, I wish I would have done that!” If words cannot solve the issue at heart, I sure hope just sitting down and playing music and letting that lead the way – not such a bad option IMHO! I know some of you are like keep dreaming MIKE, and you are probably absolutely right, but could you imagine the fans and those gigs, esp for those who never got to see the original line up – MAGIC I SAY!!!!!!!!!! In the end, I will support anything the guys do, I will be there and enjoy anything they want to share!

  28. Posted 13 November 2009 at 16:27 |

I think you may want to take a look at Craig Blundell -http://www.myspace.com/craigblundell

My favourite venue to kick off the tour-Manchester Apollo…still remember the first time I saw the band there in ‘87(I think…)will be nice to see them again so many years later.

Fianlly got to play there myself a couple of years ago aswell, great atmosphere…

Mark-if you’re reading this it just has to be Phil….you know it,we know it,he knows it…..;-)

    Bring on The Sage.
Just out of interest, will the tickets DEFINITELY not be going on sale before December 4th? I’d hate to miss out, my son saw very little the year before last at the City Hall when everyone decided to stand, so the closer to the front the better.
Anyway, any inside scoop re on sale date will be gladly accepted.

Looks like I’ll have to make a trip over the pond :) …..Phil would be a nice addition,(we’d have 3/4 of the original band together again !), but if not, my vote is for Simon Phillips. He’d fit right in with the pattern carved out by Husband and Cobham.

Hi Mark – any future plans to tour in the States? I’m embarrassed to say that I only just learned yesterday you and Level 42 are still performing/recording (found out from a Gordy Marshall tweet that he had recently been working with Mike). I was a hugh fan back in the 80s and 90s, but lost touch in the last 10 years… what a joy to rediscover your music! I spent much of last night watching Youtube videos, esp of your Feb 2009 concert. Your voice and bass still rattle the inner soul – absolutely fabulous. Would love to see you here (perhaps a gig at House of Blues in Orlando?)… thank you for continuing to share your gift!

    Lots of love,

The UK tour looks great, but is there ANY CHANCE EVER that you will come and play in Australia. I’ve been a HUGE fan for over 20 years and I’ve never had the chance to see you play live. I know Australia has never been a big part of your plans but I’m sure there are lots of fans in Australia that would love to see you live. I hope that one day you come and tour down under. Thank you in advance.

Hi Mark, fantastic news on the tour dates, cant wait to see you all in action again. It is a shame that Gary cant be with you but im sure you will leave no stone unturned infinding a suitable dep (nudge nudge wink wink no what i mean!). Great to see you coming to St Albans as well as it will be my local gig, but alas i do feelthat my credit card is going to take a small hit so i can attend more than 1 show.I could always get my JD out and help if ya like (if i ever get it back from john lol)and you could play drums, oh sorry reality is kicking in and ive realised im not anywhere near as good as you!!!!!Love to you all.Gaz.

    Good one Mr. King!

Those of us farther away across the pond can now effectively plan ahead! We will try to get hundreds of people to fly over, thanks to your advance notice. If we work half as diligently as the band we can gather and persuade maximal fan numbers to fly across!
Yes Gary is the most energetic drummer i have ever seen yet I am sure you will have some good drummers lining up to work with you.
I look forward the future concert DVD of this 2010 tour! Every year your songs evolve into even greater masterpieces.

Can’t wait Croydon & hopefully Indigo.
PRS at Albert hall was fantastic missed you not being able to attened (sorry for your loss) Mike was the best.
As for a drummer why not the one from the rhythm kings not sure of his name but he was execllent but I’m sure you already have someone in line.
Would be great to see Phil Gould with you as I have been listening to “watertight” and its reeeeeeeeeeeally good.
Please play rooted and some more from the retroglide album, who no’s may be some trully new stuff, we can only hope.

No Denmark? Come to think of it, there’s no France either. Then again, there’d probably just be me and Morgan in the hall. Why didn’t the French ever get the Level 42 buzz? Maybe Johnny Hallyday was the limit of their ‘bopping’ at the time?

Can recommend great Drummer born on Island too, my son won award as best drummmer in Battle of Bands in Berkshire and been bought up on Level 42.
He has been n several bands most recently a band called Chloe in North West.

Mark any chance of Mike locking the door & turning the lights out?
Not feat this verse at the end of Hot Water (Live) for years.
See you at Indigo & your B/day gig at Margate.

    Cheers,
    Kev.
