Living It Up: Level 42 30th Anniversary 4 CD Box Set

Release date: July 19th 2010

On the eve of Level 42’s 30th anniversary, Universal Music are proud to announce the release of ‘Living It Up’, a beautifully packaged 4-disc box set that includes all 34 of the band’s A-side single releases, including ‘World Machine (remix)’, which was a US only release, a collection of long lost studio recordings, previously unreleased demos and rare tracks that have only previously been available on vinyl. The box set’s fourth disc is the much rumoured Level 42 acoustic album.

Recorded at the beginning of 2010 by Level 42’s lead singer & bassist Mark King and keyboards & vocalist Mike Lindup, the acoustic album features stunning acoustic versions of ten classic Level 42 tracks. It is the first time anything like this has been attempted in the band’s history – and the results are quite brilliant.

The box set is completed by extensive sleeve notes by Mark King, music journalist & author Paolo Hewitt, who was an early champion of Level 42, and Earth, Wind & Fire bassist Verdine White, who recounts his fond memories of working with the band during his time as their producer.

In addition to the release of the ‘Living It Up’ box set, Level 42 will embark on a 30th Anniversary World Tour, with dates across Japan, North America, Europe and the UK between June and November 2010, as well as playing festivals in Europe and UK.

what a load of rubbish! how many times does universal honestly expect topay for the same tracks over and over again? i mean sure it’ll be great to hear the acoustic stuff, but come on, how many live versions do we need?

    Another a “best of” collection.
It would have been a brand new album.

Stop your moaning, 10 previously unreleased tracks and an albums worth of acoustic re-makes which is no easy task. A great way to celebrate 30 years, of course a new album will always be great but I’m sure were not done yet…

Can’t wait to see them on the road.

    Cool.

    Chris.

I’d have perferred the accoustic album and a seperate album of new tracks. I don’t fancy buying the whole thing for 1 cd, i must have tracks like ‘something like you’ about 4 times over but i’ll probably buy coz i love the band!

“…with dates across Japan, North America, Europe and the UK between June and November 2010″.

North America implies not just the U.S. Please say there are some Canadian dates coming soon – at the very least Toronto! :)

Great collection. I’m pleased that Mark and Mike have reworked some of the Guaranteed tracks acoustically. Can only hope a track or two will be released to radio stations for airplay.

If you dont like it, dont buy it. Simples. I really wish people would quit moaning about this stuff when the choice is really very simple.

I’ll be buying it – can’t wait. Although I would love to have heard some of the early stuff on the acoustic album, or Kansas City Milkman. And “Freedom” by Thunderthumbs….

USD96 for this pre-ordered on amazon.com?? Mark & co must be padding out their retirement accounts. I think I’ll be waiting a bit to order, given that all I want is the 4th acoustic CD anyway.

30th anniversary demands a new album, not another re-hash of the classic tracks that we all already own, or a new album with cd4 as a bonus cd, seeing as how its the only new thing on there – wont be buying this…

Right then. Level 42 are still going after all these years and are far more creative and individual in everything that they do than any other band i know. To embark on this magnificent world tour is a fete in itself after all this time and just proves that the Band are still WORLD CLASS. (yes i am biased – followed band since 1980 and love em to bits)

I know that the boys will have loads of new stuff for us in time to come.

So lets just celebrate with them and just BUY THE BLOODY BOX SET !!!!!!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS MARK and the LADS. !!!!!!!!

Personally I think the box set is a fantastic collection. At the end of the day, we are getting a new album and a rarities collection as well as the complete singles collection. Well done for this and I surely will be ordeing mine.

My only wish would have been to finally release both sides of the Thunderthumbs single as part of this set (the A-side with the singles) and the B-side as part of the rarities…any chance Mark of making this happen?

The only thing that really would have made this year perfect was a new studio album and a visit to Australia (which the band has chosen to bypass despite going to Japan…and Indonesia in recent years)…oh well, maybe one day.

Many thanks Universal and the band for 30 years of music!

Shame Level 42`s best rare track `Nothing more to say` isn`t on it. Too many `42 compilation albums knocking about. Last thing we need is another one. Rare and acoustic should have been released on their own. Well I`ve nothing more to say…….

Any truth in the poor stereo on tracks 1-9 ???

I just bought it from Amazon.uk and yes, about half of the first 9 tracks (except for tracks 3-6) are in mono (only one channel is represented).

A little disappointed that the rarities disc hasn’t got more actual rarities on it. “Coup D’etat” is the same version that was on the deluxe version of World Machine (so it’s not the first time it’s on CD).

Meanwhile, I’m still missing CD versions of my “Micro Kid” 12″, the live b-side “A Physical Presence” and a proper release of “Hell” would be nice…
