Hi all,
Myself and the wife went off to see " rise of the planet of the apes " at the new Westfield shopping centre in Stratford.
The film has been out for a while now but we managed to grab one of the last showings before it slides off to dvd.
I thought the film was great, the special effects are fantastic especially " Ceaser " the ape. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't seen it.
As for movie's on dvd, you can't beat a bit of " Scarface ( Al Pacino version ) " or " Reservoir Dogs ".

                                       Cheers all.

I saw "Dead River - Rough Cut". It was held at a local general store with a sheet on the wall. 60 attended, as did the two film makers who filmed it in 1973 when then were in their mid 20s. I had heard that this 90 minute film is the most requested by the inmates at the local prison (!), so I really was curious.

As it was, it centered around 2 grown men who live their lives in the woods. They make their shelter and barns, carry their water, hunt and fish and grow vegetables. They have basic gear, like old snowmobiles and oxen teams. They finished schooling, so they were literate, but their opinions about life were quite course. They like hard liquor every once in a while. They get lonely and trek through deep snow to get to each other's cabins. No phone, no lights.

At least one thing could be said: They lived free. I think that is why the inmates liked it so.
The film makers answered questions and seemed very "normal". I don't think they knew just what they created in 1973...

(The general store shows a movie like this once a month with free popcorn. It fosters customers and community interaction.)

This Michael Jackson thing is really something. Last night I went to a circle sing. 24 of us in 4 and 5 part harmony singing non-stop for 2 hours. At once point, one of the sections started sounding like "Billie Jean" in Zulu. it went on for quite a while. As will the trial of his personal doctor who was present when he abrubtly died. Seems many are viewing that whole proceeding as if it were "entertainment"...

I saw the new Michael Jackson film, 'This Is It'. Enjoyed it, sad to see him gone, his talent was still there and the music will live for a very long time!

I saw Public Enemies the other day on DVD. All about bank robber John Dillinger and his gang and their violent robbery spree across 30's US mid-West. Johnny Depp was brilliant as Dillinger and Chritian Bale was cool as FBI Agent Purvis who pursued him. Very well made movie from the Michael Mann stable. Tons of action, excellent acting and fantastic 30's deco style. Great movie.

I saw 2012 last night and agree about the script but with those special effects i wasn't really listening to what they were saying.
It was a great film and if that were to happen i don't think i'd want to be around.

Hehe I was exactly the same mate!! I was so engrossed in the special effects and letching after a certain John Cusack (big guilty pleasure) that when i tried to talk to Mikey about it on the phone afterwards, i couldnt remember anything about the plot anyway!!!!!

Now this puts me in mind to start another thread.........

Last movie my wife and I saw at the theater was "Surrogates". Overall pretty good show, I'm surprised it didn't get a better response. Its very "I-Robotish". CGI special effects are definitely getting more and more seamless.

I just watched "Memento" on DVD today. Its been quite a while since I had seen it, and I'd forgotten what a great piece of film making it is. The playing with time in that movie was brilliant, but the great thing is all the existential questions it poses. Well acted, well directed, great script, and multi-layered themes...my kind of flick!
