I'm just rebuilding the site, the font is my choice. Nothing to do with the new album...

Ah well there ya go Morgan...it's a hard life being in the public eye. Everything you do is up for public criticism...even font choice it would seem! Nothing personal.

Mikey, I wouldn't say GH "earned" the seat as such, but he has became just as much part of L42 over the years, more so than the others who have come and gone for whatever reasons. I'd say GH was part of the fabric of the band now. His drive and energy is part of the music and the live performance as a whole.
I'm sure young Pete will prove himself a worthy 'stand-in' and will do really well. I've had some good reports from people who have worked with him, so he's 'sound' as we say here.

I hate to say this too, but L42 won't go on forever. There will come a time in the not so distant future, when Mark will call a halt to the touring and take more of a backseat in his music career. But you can be sure we won't have seen or heard the last of him even then...a musician never retires, they just rest for longer in between jobs!

I apologise for now going off topic (yet again)...time to start a new one methinks!

Personally, I like both the new publicity photo and the new "gothic" font style. I always liked the band best in suits, but then I'm biased towards the look they had in the Running In the Family era anyway.

well, you talk like the font choice is a detail, when it's actually the most important thing... you don't realize what goes in a font choice - so much, indeed.

regarding level 42, considering the nice cd covers of the beginnings (even standing in the light was designed by the top designer neville brody) vs the ugly ones they produced since 1990, I would have been happy to see something else than a free goth font on the front page of their official website for the anniversary... looks like the frontpage of evanescence or tokio hotel website now.

Not exactly goth font IMO - more western grunge, the letter shapes are definitely western. It may be free but that doesn't take anything away from the quality of the font, the designer has created a number of fantastic grunge fonts.

Speaking of Brody - As much as I respect Brody's style and the changes he introduced to the art and industry I never really got into it (too over the top for my client list!) but have been influenced by it. I did like all the stuff by Rick Valicenti at Thirst/Chicago the 90's, similar to Brody's.

David I think your designs are brilliant- much more suited to the band's real image than the dark gothic look- can't quite get my head round the decision to take it in that direction??

Gothic, western grunge: yeah, well, still not level 42...

Anna: thanks, and I guess Morgan had this idea when he saw the dark, grinny new photos of the band... In a way, it fits the photos (kinda), but still, it's not the right font I think. I really hope they will hire a good designer for the cd cover or the tour material, but when I look at Retroglide, I very much doubt so.

Anyway... I love L42 for their music after all

I have to say, I don't like the font style. To me, it makes it look like the band are desperately trying to be down with the kids, especially with the new drummer who looks like he should be terrorising passers by on a street corner.

Oh Taylor74...that did make me laugh!

As Morgan says previously, it was his idea for the font.

*still chuckling at the drummer comment* ...poor Pete, bless him...he surely doesn't look that scary...does he???

Well no, I suppose he has got a suit on. I guess he looks like he belongs in Limp Biskit or some some emo type band. That's what makes the choice of font worse as it really does look like they're trying to give that impression out due to the new member. I do wonder if it can be a bit off putting to the casual observer.

I do apologise Morgan, for being critical, just my penny worth.
